If you’re playing by the Also,I will get this rules of golf title, you play the ball as it lies, unless the rules offer or mandate that you don’t. We do get embarrassed sometimes in golf. That is part of the game. Embarrassment for being caught cheating is bigger than embarrassment for hitting a bad shot. If you don’t want to hit the ball where it lies, you can declare the ball unplayable, and take one of the options available under the rules. In this case, you could tee your ball up on your tee after taking your stroke and distance penalty, and shoot your 3rd stroke. I’m going to try to win a prize for shortest answer. If you were playing with me, here’s how I’d want you to handle the situation: Show up wearing clothes that comply with the dress code. A collared shirt and shorts/pants will do. Most places forbid jeans and cargo pants and board shorts. If you don’t think you have proper attire, the pro shop will be happy to help you on the spot. After that, simply tell the pro, the starter, and your playing mates that you’re new to the game and you’d like their help with the etiquette. If we’d just met and you said something like that to me on the first tee, I’d do everything in my power to help you enjoy the experience. For your part, don’t feel the pressure of getting the ball in the hole as the only objective. Relish your great shots and don’t play to the point of frustration. It has to be fun! Golf is really hard and the culture of it has some work to do to be more approachable to newbies. Get over this hump by asking for help and I’m convinced you’ll develop a love and appreciation for this great game.

At first glance, it might seem like a bit of a silly question, but it is not title_link . Let me explain why I think it is interesting. Participation in golf has dramatically increased over the Also,I will get this last year or so. I think it started during shutdowns of many activities during the first year or two of covid. That is, except for possibly a couple of months in those places that golf is played year-round, most courses were open while other activities were restricted, and golf became an outdoor activity for many. At my local course, there is a concerted effort (I’m sure it’s true at others as well) to increase the number of people who are playing golf. That, and this last few months I’ve been volunteering at that course as a starter and marshal on the course a couple of times a week, especially on Sunday afternoons when many college kids, families, and a lot of first-timers come to the course to “try golf”. So I’ve seen a much greater variety of attire than I normally would when I’m out on the course with ‘regulars’ – many of whom have played all their lives and wear traditional golf clothes. So just in the last couple of weekends I’ve seen everything from jeans, hiking shoes, and heavy hooded sweatshirts or quilted jackets; shorts, tee shirts, and bare feet; very skimpy tops over strategically and ‘fashionably’ torn jean shorts; leggings, tank tops, and sneakers; sundresses; in addition to traditional golf attire (‘bermuda’-length golf shorts, a collared golfing polo shirt, and golf shoes. It’s been interesting!
