My experience with most of these docs is that they tend to go into academics. Note that in the old days, there was something called a general practitioner (GP). These were physicians who did their required one year residency after medical school graduation but did not go on to specialize in anything, but instead went right into practice. Although this is still perfectly legal and you can still get a medical license this way, almost nobody does it. So please don’t call your primary care doctor a GP – we all specialized in something.
